Some new patients have to wait months for their first appointments because of the shrinking numbers of doctors in town.

The problem is so severe Mutasim, of University Dermatology Consultants in Corryville, added more doctors and hired nurse practitioners. His says his patients love the added help because they get to see a professional sooner.

Fugitive roundup corrals six

Little said the department has filed for "about a dozen" new escape warrants to replace those that vanished. More new warrants are likely.

He said the state has found no single cause of their disappearance. In some cases, it appears warrants were never filed after an escape. Others apparently were purged as law enforcement agencies moved from paper-based systems to computerized networks.

More than 80 additional state inmates imprisoned in local jails have escaped over the past 25 years and remain at large.

The state Department of Correction has insisted that the responsibility of finding those escapees falls on local sheriffs' offices, but Little said Tuesday that the state is working with several counties to rectify "some individual situations we have identified" in which warrants don't exist.

Tiny oranges roll in for the season

Sometimes called "Christmas oranges" because they peak in supermarkets between Thanksgiving and early January, these small, slightly flat mandarins generally are sold in 5-pound boxes.

Thin-skinned, easy to peel and (most pleasantly) seedless, intensely sweet clementines stand out as snacking fruit, especially for children.

Americans are expected to eat more than 180,000 tons of clementines this year, according to U.S. government and industry figures, most of them from Spain and California.

Domestic growers have only recently plunged into the more than $69 million industry. Clementines first came to the United States in 1909 from Algeria and were grown sporadically in Florida and California, says Tracy Kahn, curator of the Citrus Variety Collection at the University of California, Riverside.

Report says Michigan lags in creating high-wage jobs

Our best guess is that unless we substantially increase the proportion of college-educated adults, particularly in our biggest metropolitan areas, Michigan will continue to trend downward in the per capita income rankings," the study said.

The one bit of good news in the report is that Michigan gained 47,000 high-education, high-wage jobs in health care and education between 2000 and 2006.

About 40,000 of those jobs were added in Grand Rapids and Detroit.

Traditional economic development efforts are centered on using government financial incentives or cutting taxes to attract businesses and industries that will provide jobs for current residents.

But Glazer said governments can't accurately predict which industries will produce future job growth.

'Top Model' quitter Ebony Morgan: I was so over the whole reality ...

"I just did not want to be there anymore. I really didn't have a desire for it. At that point, I didn't really care about being America's Next Top Model," Morgan told reporters during a Thursday conference call. "I didn't really care half as much as the other girls did, so I didn't think it would be fair for me to stay there if I really didn't care for it as much... I just realized that wasn't my passion and I was so over the whole reality show thing." The 20-year-old Chicago, IL nursing student's decision to quit Top Model 9 had also apparently been on her mind for quite some time. .

Ashton never feared another England meltdown

Make no mistake about it, Italy is not an easy place to come and play rugby. They gave Ireland a run for their money last week at Croke Park. I am quite happy to go away with a win."

Ashton blamed injuries and illness for upsetting his preparations.

Captain Phil Vickery went down with a stomach bug on Sunday morning after Ashton had already lost five players to injury. Continued...
