WEEK IN REVIEW
Read the festival's Web site or brochure because many events within the festival, such as bus or kayak tours, have limited space and require registration. Some festival admissions are free but probably charge for tours; some may have a festival fee that includes free classes. Many offer meals, art shows and children's activities. Come prepared: Bring your bird-watching tools (binoculars, spotting scopes, cameras with long lenses, identification books) and layers of clothing. A few tours start with the rising sun; if there's an owl tour, you'll be wandering in the dark. Be able to protect your bird-watching equipment from rain. Be curious: Ask questions of your guides. They are usually experienced birders or people with other knowledge, such as geology or wildlife.
Jeff Thelen's Blog
After hearing the exchange, the group behind us (all adults) actually made several comments about the movie during the movie. (I found them all pretty funny) But the gentleman in front of me didn't say another word. So, here's my question to you. Is it rude to talk and laugh and make comments at a theater, before the film begins during the trailers? Or is it rude to ask someone to hush up in a theater before the movie begins? I know some people really like the previews, so may be we were out of line. On the other hand, I sort of felt like he jumped the gun telling us to be quiet before the movie ever began. I'm sort of lost here, does anyone know proper theater etiquette? J Respond to Jeff's blog here: UPDATE ON 1/30/08Hi everybody and thanks for all the responses! There are so many I can't answer them all, except the ones that need to be directly addressed.
Vioxx settlement heats up law fight
LANSING (AP) More than 1,000 Michigan residents could end up getting part of a $4.85 billion national settlement if they or their loved ones took the painkiller Vioxx. But that hasn't squelched a firestorm over the state's unique 1995 law shielding pharmaceutical makers from product liability lawsuits over drugs such as Vioxx. Michigan's law is the toughest in the country, allowing legal damages only if plaintiffs prove a company withheld or misrepresented information about a drug that would cause the Food and Drug Administration to not give or to withdraw its approval. That law seemed to pose an insurmountable barrier for Michigan residents who wanted to file claims that Vioxx had harmed them or a family member. But some took a chance on suing Vioxx manufacturer Merck & Co.
New Fallout 3 Developer Diary: Brotherhood of Steel
Now imagine all of that compulsion, all of that addiction we as an entire race share, and encapsulate it into one group of people. Imagine the obsession and fervor, the unending need for technological superiority, and the ultimate futility of such a goal. Imagine, if you will, the Brotherhood of Steel. In Fallout 3, the Brotherhood of Steel is one of the most important and influential factions you'll encounter. And while it's true they are a military organization, the Brotherhood's values and command structure are actually more representative of a medieval knightly order. Like the Templars of old, in their own eyes, the members of the Brotherhood of Steel are pure, they are just -- they are truly human in a world filled with both physical and moral corruption. But it is the worship of technology that truly defines and drives them.
