Chill on its way
Todays high in the Tuscarawas Valley is not expected to hit 20 and tonights low will be near zero with a chance of snow showers, according to weather forecasters. The National Weather Service at Pittsburgh issued a wind advisory Saturday night that will remain in effect for the Tuscarawas County area until 4 this afternoon. A strong cold front that is moving across the area is bringing 55 mph winds along with it. The National Weather Service also issued a wind chill advisory for 9 tonight until 9 Monday morning. Wind chills are expected to bottom out at more than 10 below zero overnight tonight. Area residents should take their pets indoors or provide extra bedding for those left outside. Stop Chasing High-Tech Cheaters
Opening up The New York Times last week, I stumbled across an article that outraged me. "Colleges Chase as Cheats Shift to Higher Tech" detailed the struggle of some academics against new, high-tech forms of "cheating" that are based in Internet use, iPods, cellphones, and PocketPCs. The tone of the article was one of dismay at the collapse of morality in education. As I watched the article climb the "most e-mailed list" on the Times Web site through the day, my outrage increased. .
Maple Leafs turning to Cliff Fletcher?
Even worse was Maurice. I thought he was going to cry during his post-game scrum. HNIC's Scott Oake and Kelly Hrudey said it right - it was painful to watch. Unless, of course, you revel in human suffering – or hate the Maple Leafs. It's time to make a decision. These guys don't deserve this anymore. Make a commitment to them, or fire them. Even if they were jettisoned, they'd probably be relieved. « Previous Post | Main | Next Post » This discussion is now Open. Submit your Comment. .
K.J. gets overlooked, but shouldn’t
So I offered my services for a few hours today, since I'm supposed to be off. Ink-stained wretch to record-store nerd. Love it. I'll be keeping up with the blog on my laptop while I fulfill what once seemed a dream job for me — working in a record store (I didn't understand you weren't going to get rich working in such a store. Or anything close to rich). For an afternoon, I can spin tunes and sell some CDs, provided folks stop in between noon and 3:30, when my man got some relief coming in. And since Don's a big baseball fan and all, he's even offering a 20-percent spring-training/Braves-MIB discount on used CDs for one week starting today. Just mention the code DOB to the person behind the register. No kidding. See ya at the record store.
Damned if She Does, Damned if She Doesn't
Even what seems an act of human fault — Mother Teresa's chastising letter to a convent of her sisters — might be a virtuous act of charity. So too might be John Paull II's public scolding of Ernesto Cardenal, the Nicaraguan priest who held a public office in Ortega's Sandinista government. Jesus would allow his human nature an expression that is an act of charity — he rebuked the money changers for their sin not out of anger, but out of love of God and love of Man. Living the life of Christ is about becoming becoming more perfectly human, — following Christ's example — not "being perfect." --TonyAdragna (To reply, click here.) Who prays to the Pope John Paul II anyway? Devout Catholics and just about no one else. So if they have no "Saint John Paul" to provide greater clout than his current revered state, they can always turn to many other old stand bys as they are always ready with a sympathetic ear.
