Winehouse wins 5 Grammys; Hancock snags top album

West delivered an electric, glow-in-the-dark rendition of Stronger, then segued into a stirring tribute to his mother, Donda West, who died unexpectedly last year at age 58. "Last night I saw you in my dreams, and now I can't wait to go to sleep," sang West, dressed in all black and with MAMA etched into his haircut, as he launched into Hey Mama, a celebratory tune from his second album that has now turned into a somber ode.

When West accepted the best rap album trophy, the orchestra was trying to play him off the stage when he began speaking about his mother.

"It would be in good taste to stop the music," West said - and the music stopped.

"I know you're really proud of me right now and I know you want me to be the No. 1 artist in the world and Mama," West continued, "all I'm going to do is keep making you proud.

As families age, it may be tempting to use credit to improve your quality of life beyond what you can afford to pay with cash. But as in every stage of life, you're better off saving when you can and using credit only when it's smart. 2006-07-26

These couples fell in love while training for marathons

That was the first of more than a dozen marathons for Mr. Sobol, 45, whose training and social life now revolve around the organization. He's made lifelong friends and guided newcomers through positive, life-altering changes. Recently, he met and married Becky, a Team In Training runner.

According to the Leukemia Society's North Texas office, many romances blossom in Team In Training, or TNT, the world's largest endurance sports training program. Team members bond as they share the agony of long training runs and the joy of achieving dreams.

TNT is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Since 1988, the program has guided 340,000 people such as Mr. Sobol to the completion of an endurance event, and participants have raised more than $800 million for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Swanni's HDTV Presidential Forecast!

Washington, D.C. (February 6, 2008) -- In 1960, Democratic Sen. John F. Kennedy defeated Vice President Richard Nixon in part because the latter failed to shave in the first presidential debate. Nixon's 5 o'clock shadow made him look unfriendly, if not downright sinister.

Can you imagine if the debate had aired in crystal-clear High-Definition TV? In fact, one could argue that Nixon would have never even been nominated for high office if the voters had first seen him in high-def.

Well, this year's debates are being broadcast in high-def by CNN -- and how the candidates look could be having an impact on the race.

High-Definition TV's picture is so precise that the facial imperfections and aging signs of TV personalities -- and presidential hopefuls -- are now visible to the naked eye.

about this blog

Flowers we like to grow should have names that please us and its a joy to find them honoring men and women who've excelled in the world of gardens. Weeds, on the other hand, should have names we loathe, so we can go about their destruction with more zest and vim. The process of weeding is more sanative if you name the pests after your own special enemies and pet abominations. Don't bother to learn whether your new intruder is pigweed or horse nettle. Just christen it in honor of some neighbor who you find difficult to 'love as thyself' and, while abolishing it, you also may vent your spleen." -- Julian Meade, Bouquets and Bitters, 1940.***** ***** *****Here's one of those lesser gardening moments: last evening, as I was tucking a few seedlings of white lobelia into this window box, it tried to re-enact the tale of the SS Poseidon, as it tumbled from its bracket and nearly capsized.

Presidential Watch – Daily – Friday, February 8

Hillary Clinton survived a Super Tuesday scare. But there are five big reasons the former first lady should be spooked by the current trajectory of the campaign.

Longtime Clinton friends say she recognizes the peril in careening between near-death primary night experiences and small-bore victories.

Although the friends did not have details, they believe she may go ahead with the campaign shake-up she had been planning just before her surprise victory in New Hampshire.

Her team is girding for trench warfare, telling reporters that the nomination will not be decided until at least the Pennsylvania primary on April 22, if then.

Clinton aides told reporters on a conference call today that the Democratic Party’s complex delegate allocation rules mean that neither candidate is likely to take a sizable lead in the foreseeable future.
