Obama's Hispanderama

There are people who want to return to the old ways and rescue some of the old attitudes. There are groups that seek to restore border integrity. But they are denigrated by many, even the president, who has called them vigilantes. The New Yorker this week carries a mildly snotty piece by a writer named Daniel Kurtz-Phelan in which he interviews members of a group of would-be Minutemen who seek to watch the borders with Mexico and Canada. They are "running freelance patrols"; they are xenophobic; they dismiss critics as "communists" and "child molesters."

How nice to be patronized by young men whose place is so secure they have two last names. How nice to be looked down on for caring.

As a Reaganite, Noonan must have recognized that elite condescension instantly, allergically.

Dalians ease to victory

ROCHDALIANS got back into action last weekend, after a three-week break, and swept to a 4-0 Lancashire and Cheshire League win over Hazel Grove.

Both teams looked rather ring rusty, and the game lacked quality and cohesion for periods, but Dalians were clearly the better side on the day.

The only decent moves in the first half came from Dalians who were rewarded on 22 minutes when Callum Whitehead won possession, cut inside, and drove home from 18-yard out.

Another goal came early in the second half when Chris Ogunyode side-footed home to round off one of the best moves of the game.

Dalians continued to press and made it 3-0 on 70 minutes when the hard working Armstrong cut in from the left and curled the ball into a top corner of the net.

I'm a party girl - Lindsay Lohan

LINDSAY Lohan's wild ways have sent her to rehab and jail, but she says she still finds it hard to resist the urge to party. But the actor said she has had time to reflect on her mistakes.

"I have it in me to go, go, go," the 21-year-old actor told Harper's Bazaar magazine.

"When I look back on this last year, it's like, what was I thinking? I've learned so much, though, like learning to live my life a different way . . . and I wasn't taking the time to feel my feelings."

The Mean Girls star said she had had time to reflect on her mistakes.

But Lohan, who was shown on a video taking a swig from a champagne bottle while ringing in the new year in Italy, said it was hard to resist a party.

"I'm still young," she said.

Cutting emissions from vehicles will require many solutions

Denver Metro area residents and possibly all residents of Colorado will be facing some tough times in the near future as our air quality fell below federally acceptable levels too many times last summer and lawmakers are considering the adoption of California emissions restrictions on vehicles.

Despite better quality fuels, the emissions inspection program, and ever improving emission control devices on vehicles, Denver's air quality has slipped. These restrictions, if imposed, will raise the cost of vehicles, reduce the number of vehicles available for purchase, and do nothing to encourage other options that could help reduce the ozone levels in the summer.

What is the solution? Well that has to come from many sources and there are options that don't increase vehicle costs or reduce vehicle ownership choices.
